The four major championships in the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) are the British Open, the Master's, the U.S. Open, and the PGA Championship. First played in June 1895, the U.S. Open rotates throughout various golf courses in the country. The 2017 U.S. Open was held at Wisconsin's Erin Hills and was won by journeyman golfer Brooks Koepka, who shot 16 under par en route to a four-stroke victory over Hideki Matsuyama and Brian Harman.

It was the first career major championship win for Koepka, a former Florida State All-American who rounded out his game as a professional on the European Tour. He shot a five-under-par 67 to secure the U.S. Open title and equal the best under-par score ever recorded. A testament to the parity in the PGA, Koepka became the seventh consecutive first-time major winner.
